MEET BROOKLYN

For the last three years, I’ve used my PowerSheets for goal setting. The PowerSheet method includes multiple pages of prep prior to determining any goals that take a few hours to complete. The method is so helpful in determining what matters that every year I’ve looked back and made progress on those goals.

I’ve also used the Emily Ley Simplified Daily Planner for the last several years to keep track of my daily schedule, to-dos, and to keep myself as organized as possible. I sit down every Friday afternoon and plan out my next week. It helped me through grad school and I do the same thing now to make sure I’m meeting deadline and goals each day.

Finally, I use a Rhythms Prayer Journal to keep track of prayers and answered prayers!

let’s get into my goals for 2021!

  1. SEEK GOD’S VISION FOR MY BUSINESS, AND GROW FINANCIALLY – If you’re new around here (hello and welcome), I worked in higher education for a decade before I left in February 2020 to pursue this business full-time. I have seen God faithfully show up for us over the last year, but I want more for my business than for it to be all about the money. I want to have a more clear vision for how I can serve others through photography, business, and life in general.

  2. READ AT LEAST 30 BOOKS – I read 23 books, not including my textbooks (I completed a Master’s Degree in Theology in Fall 2020), in 2020. This goal really is more connected with my desire to watch less TV in 2021. I have the worst taste in TV and it’s not really doing anything for my brain. In 2021 I want to be more diligent about filling my mind with good things. I have a list of almost 30 books in the areas of spiritual formation, business/finance, fiction, and food writing in the notes app on my phone to get through!

  3. CREATE A MORNING & EVENING ROUTINE – In 2020 I cultivated a very bad habit of scrolling on my phone as soon as I woke up until right before I went to bed. I want my mornings and evenings to be peaceful and point my heart toward listening to the Lord. I’m not sure what this will look like, but Kyle and I have been going through the Spiritual Disciplines Study through She Reads Truth in the evenings, and the habit of reading the Word right before bed has been life-giving already.

  4. SOCIAL MEDIA/PHONE BOUNDARIES – To go along with the goal above, I need more clear boundaries on when and how I use my phone. Because a lot of my job is done on the internet/social media I’ve been deleting instagram (I rarely use facebook) every day at 5 PM and downloading it again in the morning at 9 AM. My phone also has a new charging place upstairs so I don’t have it sitting right next to me in the morning. I read The Tech-Wise Family last year and the author recommends some great phone boundaries that I’m implementing this year: my phone will be completely turned off on Sundays and during our vacation week. The author recommends unplugging one hour per day, one day per week, and one week per year.

  5. HEALTH GOALS – I started seeing a nutritionist in June, and while I’ve seen some progress there’s nothing like a brand new year to refresh and get motivated. I have some scale goals and non-scale goals I’d like to make progress on. I need to buckle down a bit more with nutrition, and I’ve committed to at least 100 workouts at my local gym. I really love group fitness classes and only need two per week to reach my goal by December! As of writing this, I’m 3/100 workouts in!

  6. HAVE MORE FUN/DO THINGS I ENJOY – Is it weird to have to remind oneself to actually enjoy their life? I don’t know, but this year I’d like to have more fun. Remember that decade-long stint in higher ed I mentioned above? I really did not like it, and it made me not enjoy my life either. Now that I have a more flexible schedule I want to dig in and actually discover things that give me life, and say yes to new experiences! I’m currently listening to the audio version of That Sounds Fun and can’t wait to actually read my physical copy! I’ve already said yes to a girls trip to a city I’ve never been to before and I’m planning something fun for my birthday next month as well!

I’d love to hear what your goals are for 2021 below in the comments, or on social media!
